Intel is preparing to launch the fifteenth generation of its processors, known as Arrow Lake with a lot of improvements. According to informed sources, these new processors are expected to be launched between October and December 2024, to compete with the AMD Ryzen 9000 series.
1 Advanced manufacturing technology
Intel intends to use an advanced manufacturing technology with a resolution of 2 nm (known as Intel 20A) in Arrow Lake processors. This development represents a huge leap compared to the 7 nm technology used in the Fourteenth generation.
The transition to this microtechnology allows Intel to increase the number of transistors on the chip, which significantly enhances performance and energy efficiency.
2 Innovative architecture
Intel is adopting a new tile-based design (Tiles), combining high-performance and low-consumption cores, along with a built-in graphics processing unit and specialized accelerators for artificial intelligence and video processing.
This approach aims to achieve an optimal balance between strong performance and energy efficiency.
3 Performance and efficiency improvements
Leaks suggest that Arrow Lake processors may maintain 8 high-performance cores, with the possibility of increasing low-consumption cores to 16 or even 32 cores in advanced versions.
The possibility of removing Hyperthreading technology is also on the horizon, which could allow high-performance cores to realize their maximum potential in heavy tasks.
Initial performance forecasts indicate a 15% improvement in multi-core tasks and 5% in single-core tasks compared to the Fourteenth generation, taking into account that these figures may change with the final release.
4 Advanced memory and connectivity technologies
Arrow Lake processors are expected to support DDR5-6400 memory, providing superior data transfer speeds. Forecasts also indicate the possibility of supporting Thunderbolt 5 and PCIe 5.0 technologies, enhancing connectivity and expansion capabilities.
5 New socket and advanced motherboards
Fifteenth generation processors will require a new Socket (LGA 1851) and new motherboards. This change, although it may be a challenge for users wishing to upgrade, opens the door to significant improvements in performance and functionality
6 Focus on artificial intelligence
Intel pays special attention to enhancing the capabilities of artificial intelligence in Arrow Lake processors. This trend comes in response to the growing demand for artificial intelligence applications in various fields.
7 Price and availability forecasts
The price of the flagship processor from the Arrow Lake series is expected to be in the range of 600-650 USD. Laptops with such processors, on the other hand, may not reach consumers until early 2025.
8 Competition with AMD
The launch of processors Arrow Lake in the midst of a fierce competition with AMD, launched processors Ryzen 9000 in August 2024. This competition is paying two companies towards continuous innovation, which will benefit consumers and the industry as a whole.
